This absorbent clay is used in drilling mud for oil and gas exploration because it stabilizes boreholes and prevents cave-ins. In foundry applications, bentonite acts as a binder for mold sand. It’s also applied in environmental protection as a barrier to prevent contamination in landfills and ponds.
